The Perfect Most Delicious Cheeseburger

The humble cheeseburger, an American culinary icon, traces its origins to the early 20th century. Legend has it that a young chef named Lionel Sternberger first slapped a slice of cheese onto a sizzling patty at his father’s Pasadena restaurant in the 1920s. Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 lb ground pork or ground turkey (optional mix for different flavors)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (or try Swiss, blue cheese, or pepper jack)
  • 4 burger buns
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Red onion slices
  • Pickles
  • Condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a bowl, combine ground beef with optional ground pork or turkey. Mix gently to combine without overworking the meat. Form into four equal patties, about ¾-inch thick.
